Greetings all fiber enthusiasts!
On Friday at Lilies, at 9:00 a.m. in the Tailors Tent, there will be a narrow wares competition. A prize will be offered, by the Honorable Lady Johanne of Fisher Gate, in each of three categories.
1) One for cords: this includes lucet, Kumihimo, finger loop braiding, ply-split braiding, sling cords or any other cord you can document to period.
2) One for band weaving: the patterned narrow bands we call inkle, that we do in the SCA, are not documented in period in Europe, though patterned narrow bands were done in other parts of the world. That being said, they are quite beautiful and we make and use them. All types of narrow bands, including inkle, are welcome. This includes simple patterned bands, pick-up patterns, sprang, pebble weaves, ply-split braiding, ribbons or any other narrow band. Kumihimo bands done on a Takadai are included.
3) One for tablet weaving: this includes modern SCA heraldic bands, double face patterns, brocade, Egyptian diagonals (broad diagonals, double turn), Snartemo or any other band you can document to period or that is SCA specific.
Minimal documentation would be appreciated. A handwritten 3″x5″ card with who, what, when, where, how, will do.
