- Submitted as Cesare de Lodovico Malefici, a timely correction was made by the submitter, allowing the College to consider the correct name.
The submitter requested authenticity for 15th century Florentine. The source used to document the elements did not precisely date them. It is considered likely, however, that this name meets that request. - * Drust Loc. Badge. (Fieldless) On a tortoise azure a triquetra argent.
- * Emme Ziegler. Name change from Am{i-}ra bint Timurhan and device change. Argent, a swallow displayed guardant azure, on a chief sable three mullets of seven points argent.
- Appearing on the Letter of Intent as Emma Ziegler, a timely correction corrected the spelling of the given name.
The submitter’s previous name, Am{i-}ra bint Timurhan, is retained as an alternate name.
Her previous device, Per bend sinister wavy argent and azure, a bird volant to sinister chief and another volant to dexter base counterchanged, is released.
There is a step from period practice for the use of a non-eagle displayed. - * Freygeirr Finnsson. Name and device. Per saltire sable and purpure, in annulo four ravens striking in annulo argent.
- Submitted as Freygeirr Finnrson, the submitter specifically allowed the correction to the spelling of the patronym to Finnsson.
There is a step from period practice for the use of charges in annulo not in their default palewise orientation. - * Gregorii Vladimir Borondinskii. Name.
- * Lonely Tower, Barony of the. Order name Order of the Keystone of the Lonely Tower.
- Submitted as Order of the Keystone of the Barony of the Lonely Tower, commenters could not find evidence of this use of phrases like Barony of X in period order names. Thus, we have dropped that section of the name with the permission of the submitters in order to register the name.
This order name was pended from the August 2013 Letter of Acceptances and Returns. - * Vincent de Vere. Name and device. Gules, on a fess azure fimbriated three mullets Or.
- * Gabriel andvaka Kjotvason. Badge for alternate name Andrea Auditore da Venezia. Sable, a bend sinister cotised between two roses argent.
- This badge is returned for conflict with the device of Bruno de Brest, Sable, a bend sinister cotissed between a bear paw fesswise contourny and a bear paw fesswise argent. There is a DC for the change in type of secondary charges, but nothing else.
Device and badge submissions can now be colored with color printer or color copier
Unto all who may read this message, Greetings from Dorcas Gold Falcon. I hope this message finds you well
In the beginning of August, I announced a trial of accepting electronically colored submissions of devices in addition to those colored with Crayola markers. Brigida Saker has reported that in the months since that announcement, there have only been a couple of items that weren’t acceptable.
Since the trial has been a success, the Saker office will permanently accept electronically colored device and badge submissions. However, Saker still has the flexibility to return items that are difficult to read, mis-colored, don’t upload to OSCAR accurately, or have other problems caused by the fact that they came from a color printer or copier. Of course, Saker will continue to accept submissions that are hand colored, using Crayola “Classic” markers, or their equivalent. Saker will still NOT accept forms colored with crayons, colored pencil, or paint.
As a side note, the required number of copies of a badge or device form changed last fall. A complete submission must include 1 color and 1 uncolored line drawing copies, plus 1 copy of supporting documentation.
I hope this “technology upgrade” makes it easier to create your heraldic submissions.

Gawain of Miskbridge and Caoimhin McKee promoted to Herald Extraordinary
Please join me in congratulating Master Gawain of Miskbridge and HL Caoimhin McKee on their recent promotions to the rank of Herald Extraordinary. Caoimhin was recognized at Twelfth Night, and Gawain was officially recognized this past weekend at the commentary meeting at his home in Shadowdale.
A Herald Extraordinary is a senior herald who has greatly served the kingdom College of Heralds and/or the SCA College of Arms and has achieved the highest level of competence in heraldry. This is not an award, and carries no precedence. But among heralds, it’s a really big deal. Huzzah!

A letter from the Kingdom Seneschal to the Society Seneschal
The following is a letter from the Calontir Kingdom Seneschal to the Society Seneschal.
Sir Modius von Mergentheim, Seneschal of the Society, Laurel and Pelican of the Society, Lion of Ansteorra, Defender of the Dream, who may, at any time, walk unbidden into the Court of Their Royal Majesties Ansteorra and speak his mind, it is with sadness in my heart and a tear in my eye that I, Maighster Murdoch, your humble servant, recommend myself to thee and beg thee hear my words.
Due to the lack of National Members in the area of Calontir known as the College of No Mountain, I am recommending to you, the Society Seneschal, and the Board of Directors of the SCA that the branch go into abeyance status. This will relieve the branch from any disciplinary action related to a lack of reporting, insufficient membership, or other similar circumstances.
The branch must immediately turn over all bank account materials to the Kingdom Exchequer. The Kingdom Exchequer will maintain the bank account materials until the branch is fully reinstated or dissolved.
The branch must also turn over to both the Kingdom Seneschal and the Kingdom Exchequer a complete list of all branch property. During the term of abeyance, branch property shall be maintained by an individual or individuals approved by the Kingdom Seneschal and the Kingdom Exchequer.
The branch name and heraldry will be maintained for the branch by the College of Heralds. No other individuals or groups may register heraldry that significantly conflicts with those of the branch.
During the term of abeyance, the populace of the branch are strongly encouraged to recruit new members from the institution known as Grinnell College. An increase in membership is paramount to the ending of the abeyance and reinstatement of the branch. It is recommended that at a minimum, the populace number at least ten people with six of those being paid national members of the SCA. To be reinstated as a College, the majority of the populace must have a direct connection to the institution. If this is not the case, the branch cannot be reinstated as the College of No Mountain. Upon an appropriate increase in populace, the branch may petition the Kingdom Seneschal to be reinstated to full status.
The term of abeyance shall be reviewed annually in December by the Kingdom Seneschal and shall last no longer than two years from the date the abeyance is granted by the Board of Directors. At that time, the Kingdom Seneschal shall make a recommendation to the Society Seneschal as to the group’s status; reinstatement or dissolution. Under special circumstances, the Kingdom Seneschal may recommend continuing the abeyance. However, this is not the suggested course of action.
The College of No Mountain has a long history in Calontir. These are just a few of those who were once directly associated with the institution of Grinnell College: His Grace Shadan, Mistress Diachbha, Master Andrixos, Sir Hyrim, Master Christian, Mistress Diana, Master Brendan, Mistress Olga, Countess Iliyanna, and Master Lars.
The College of No Mountain is the only local group within the SCA which permanently has land at Pennsic War which none may claim as their own and all are invited to share. Runestone Field is well known through out the Society. The text of the rune stone reads “In honour of Pennsic X. In war we test our honor, courage and strength. Let no man strike in anger. Let no man lie in pain. The people of Gnomountain erected this stone and Lars carved it.”
It is with a sad heart that I, Murdoch Stiubhard, recommend the abeyance of No Mountain. I urge all of Calontir and the Known World to assist the College of No Mountain in regaining full status. We cannot allow Runestone Field to become a memorial to a branch that is no more.

New Gold Falcon Chosen!
Unto the the people of Calontir and the Known World, especially the heralds, Greetings from Dorcas Gold Falcon. I hope this message finds you well.
After interviewing three (!) candidates, Their Calon Majesties have selected HL Konstantia Kaloethina to be the next Calontir Principal Herald. Her promotion from Purple Falcon to Gold Falcon will take place at Crown Tournament.
To everyone who applied or considered applying for the office, please accept my heartfelt thanks. I consider it a good sign that so many heralds want to serve the kingdom in this way.
I look forward to working with Konstantia and I know that everyone will support her as she takes on this new level of responsibility. Congratulations!
