800 Medieval Manuscripts

A few months ago the British Library and the Bibliothèque nationale de France made 800 Medieval manuscripts available online. These manuscripts are from the period 700 CE to 1200 CE.

The Bibliothèque nationale de France’s trilingual website allows users to search manuscripts in English, French and Italian.

The British Library website presents a curated selection of these manuscripts.

From the Editor: Feed the Wiki!

Printer, 1568 by Jost Amman

It has been a busy day here at the Falcon Banner.

Covering Queen’s Prize 2019, with the help of Nesscia and Dorcas, has been a great joy. Hopefully we provided those of you who could not make it a taste of the wonderful work that was presented. And those of you who were busy judging, being judged or attending meetings, got to see some of what you missed.

In any article, we link folks’ names to their persona page at the Calontiri Wiki.  This is our sister web site that is the loving labor of Mistress Sofya la Rus. Sofya provides a personal page for all Calontiri to show their beautiful faces, their arms, their interests and accomplishments.  These pages can be a much more detailed picture of folks than the official op.calontir.org or armorial.calontir.org, not to take anything away from those important resources.

I know my old brain really appreciates it when I can look people up in the Wiki and put a face to the name. How about you?

But, it is in the nature of a wiki that it requires community participation. That means, you need to fill in your own page — or fill in friends pages for them — in order for it to work.

Sofya has written articles on how to do this, but it is pretty simple:

  1. Email Sofya at sofya@heraldshill.org to set up your page and/or account. Sometimes pages are set up already, in which case
  2. Go to the Basic Instructions page and follow the instructions to add text, photos, arms to the page you want to edit
  3. Edit to your heart’s desire, save it, and the Kingdom will rejoice!

I strongly encourage everyone to take the time to make sure they have a page that reflects them. Why not do it today?

Falcon Banner Article Request – Papers from Clothiers and Queen’s Prize

In line with our goal of more reader reporting, I am requesting papers from the upcoming Clothiers’ Seminar and Queen’s Prize Tournament.

If you have documentation for your class or QPT entry, please consider sending it in for publication in the Falcon Banner.

I am planning on taking photos of the Walk Through History at Clothiers, and select photos at QPT, but I may not catch everything, or photography what you think is important about your project, so don’t hesitate to send your photos as well.

Please send all submissions to mathurin@falconbanner.com.  If your material is too large for email, let me know and we will set up a Google Drive folder for you.

Clothier’s Seminar Schedule

Greetings!

The schedule of classes for the 2019 Clothiers Seminar is now available at https://shirecai.calontir.org/cs2019/  (scheduled rooms are subject to change, but not class times).

The schedule this year features a Martial Clothing Track organized by Sir Mathieu Chartrain, with classes by Duke Ashir, Mistress Eowyth þa Siðend, Master Jack Banyard, and Sir Mathieu!

We still have space available if you have any heraldic garb for the display at this year’s Clothiers! Please email eventsteward@shirecai.calontir.org to get your heraldic garb on the list for the display! Lady Zarah bat Chesed will make sure your garb gets displayed and returned to you!

If you will be wearing your heraldic garb rather than have it in the display, please consider signing up to participate in the Walk Through History!  You can sign up in advance on the form available through the event web page, or by filling out an information card at the event.

Some instructors will be making their class handouts available on a CD available at the event, and/or at the Clothiers website for a limited time after the event.  Please ask at Gate if you would like a copy of the CD, which we are distributing free of charge.

Many thanks to the many fine instructors who make it possible for us to have Clothiers Seminar!

Yours in Service,

Mèstra Giraude Benet
