From Their Royal Majesties: All Calontir Events Canceled for Month of May

Gleaned from Facebook

All Calontiri,

It is with no small amount of disappointment that Her Majesty Tamar and I will be canceling all Calontir events for the Month of May.

In the past few days we have heard from leaders of our Cities and States. Missouri has announced that they will begin phasing out stay at home activities as they begin reopening “non-essential business” starting May 4th, Kansas has similar plans to begin on May 3rd, Nebraska on May 1, and Iowa on May 3rd. The Cities of Kansas City and St. Louis have extended their stay at home orders until Mid-May.

The common theme among these announcements at this time is, that while every civil community is optimistic, we are not yet prepared for large unessential gatherings. We know that this is not the news you wanted to hear, and it is certainly not the news we wished to deliver. We do believe that it is the best course of action.

We will continue to reassess as time passes and with all of us safe and healthy hope to continue our regular schedule soon.

You have all been amazing in these trying times. We appreciate all the extra effort you have given over the past few weeks and it gladdens us to see you all embrace our common cause. You stalwarts. You Dauntless.

To do other than we have chosen would potentially sacrifice many of you needlessly and that we could not abide.

Semper Fidelis

From Their Majesties: Crown Tournament Postponed

Stalwarts,

This morning Tamar and I woke to the drizzle here on our estates and could for a moment pretend it was the patter of rain on canvas. This #virtualgulfwars has been good for our souls, and ask you to continue finding ways to rally and support one another.

But this morning also bears bad news, I have heard the first “friend of a friend” reports, and while Calontir by and large stands strong and healthy the rest of the Known Worlde does not fair as well.

Given the National State of Emergency, the suggestions of the Board, and the advice and wisdom we have been able to gather;
We will be extending the suspension of organized Calontir SCA activities through April 30.

This means that Spring Crown Tournament has been suspended and is now planned for June 13, 2020, the first weekend of our Lilies War. Letters of intent, therefore, are now due by May 30.

These decisions are made under certain assumptions that no further governmental restrictions arise, but gives us the flexibility to react again if the “all clear” is not given by that time.

We will be constantly reviewing the situation and making adjustments to see to the future of Calontir and the safety of our people.

We want to publicly thank our Witan and Thiegns for their wisdom. Our Baronies, Shires, and Cantons for their Patience. And our People for their Heart.

Your Fealty has our eternal Love.
Your Service has every honor we can bestow.

You will not stand alone.
Lucian and Tamar

From Their Royal Majesties: Consent

Kingdom of Calontir, as King and Queen it is our responsibility to protect our populace. At times, that means asking all of our members to be aware, vigilant, and full of honesty in their interactions.

At this Lilies War, We, in conjunction with Their Highnesses, had a conversation with all of our polling orders about Consent, and talking about it openly among our people. We no longer want these conversations to be hidden, swept under the rug, or not discussed at all.

As unfortunate as it is, the mundane world does find its way into what we all want to be the safest place. We asked all, in all of our order meetings: to watch out for those who may find themselves in a compromising situation; to walk up and be sure our friends are talking to someone they want to talk to; to offer an escort late at night, to someone who might not want to be alone; to be a safe haven to someone who might need to gently find an escape.

As friends and especially for those of us who are Peers of the Realm, we should always be open to listen. In listening, we need to be able to hear all sides of a story. If something illegal has been done, we must encourage those who have been wronged to call the mundane authorities with no fear of retaliation. If nothing illegal has taken place, but inappropriate behavior is thought to have happened, please approach our Kingdom Advocate; take down the information from all parties and follow Society protocol for resolving issues.

This is not only something We are talking about in Kingdom, this is something that is being discussed on the Society level and within all mundane communities as well. We want to create as safe a space as possible for all of our members.

To that end, We had Duchess Isabeau print up the Society approved posters and had them posted around camp. Our Heirs, Prince Anton and Princess Yseult, fully agreed with the importance and intent of this message and did discuss this topic with all of our order meetings for which We were not in attendance. This is just the beginning of the conversation, but it is vital that we ALL participate, so that this Society which we all love can truly be the safe haven that we want it to be. With Love, Donngal and Catalina

From Their Royal Majesties: Letters of Intent and Why We Fight

Unto the Chivalry, Huscarls, Fyrdmen, and Men at Arms of the Kingdom of Calontir, and unto those who inspire them to deeds of greatness,
Greetings, from Donngal, Fourth of that name, King of Calontir, and Catalina, Fierce Queen of the Heartlands. The deadline grows close for submitting letters of intent to contend to become Our heirs. Before that deadline passes, please consider our words:
Different Kingdoms have developed different traditions surrounding Crown Tournament:

Some Kingdoms allow anyone from the Known World to enter, whist others have held that only the Chivalry may enter without an express invitation from the Crown. Our Kingdom Laws reflect a desire, borne from our first days as a Kingdom, that nobody, Crown or common, should be able to influence the outcome, outside of the will of the combatants themselves, and our long-held tradition which states that you shouldn’t enter crown unless you’re there to win it; a pushback against the notion that crown is a good place to be seen by the chivalry.

We were reminded, today, by a good friend’s post from a far Kingdom, that every fighter in the list lends their renown to the eventual victor.

To that end, we ask each of you, fighter and consort, to search your hearts, and if you are ABLE to serve as Crown (as opposed to actively wanting it), then we beseech you, take up pen, then sword, and bring your renown to add to the glory of our eventual heirs, and to the history of our great Kingdom.
In Love and Service to the Crown & Kingdom
]|)onngal & Catalina

From Her Royal Majesty: Period Soup Kitchen Experiment

Küche mit Kachelofen, aus: Kuchenmaistrey, erstmals erschienen 1485 bei Peter Wagner. V

Greetings unto My Glorious Kingdom,

As many of you know well, it brings Me great joy when we take services we provide as a Kingdom and make them as close to historical practices as possible.

In this spirit I have tasked Our Cook’s Guild to take over one day of Soup Kitchen at the upcoming Gulf Wars.

On this single day, the Cook’s Guild will provide provisions that would have been taken on pilgrimage or campaign.

I have requested that the menu for that One day will consist of bone broth, bread, butter, pickled items, meat, and cheeses.

Please contact HL Ysabel de la Oya CooksGuild@calontir.org if you would like to help in the process, or the day of.

As soon as a date is determined for this experiment an announcement will be made.

Catalina, Malika

From Their Majesties and Their Highnesses – The Passing of Titus Scipio Germanicus, HRH Aethelmearc

Our Dearest Kingdom,

We come to you today with heavy hearts. We are sad to announce that His Highness Titus of Aethelmearc, passed away last night after doing what he loved.

We want to clear up any rumors that might be going around. Their Highnesses were attending Battlemoor when he became short of breathe after fighting. He was taken to the hospital where he was found to have a blood clot, and he did pass.

We are so happy for the time we got to spend with them both at Lilies and here at Battlemoor. We please ask that you respect Her Highness’ privacy at this very difficult time. We grieve with Our Royal Cousins and Our Kingdom and thank you all for your understanding of privacy.
