XXIV. SOCIETY SENESCHAL POLICIES & INTERPRETATIONS
4. Harassment and Bullying
The SCA prohibits harassment and bullying of all individuals and groups.

Harassment and bullying includes, but is not limited to the following:
    • offensive or lewd verbal comments directed to an individual;
    • the display of explicit images (drawn or photographic) depicting an individual in an inappropriate manner;
    • photographing or recording individuals inappropriately to abuse or harass the individual;
    • inappropriate physical contact; unwelcome sexual attention; or retaliation for reporting harassment and/or bullying.

Participants violating these rules are subject to appropriate sanctions. If an individual feels subjected to harassment, bullying or retaliation, they should contact a seneschal, President of the SCA, or the Kingdom’s Board Ombudsman. If a participant of the SCA becomes aware that someone is being harassed or bullied, they have a responsibility pursuant to the SCA Code of Conduct to come forward and report this behavior to a seneschal, President of the SCA or Kingdom’s Board Ombudsman.

The following statement must be posted at gate/troll at every SCA event in a size large enough for people to see it as they enter our events.  This language must likewise be quoted in ALL site handouts at every event a site where a handout is made available.
  • THE SCA PROHIBITS HARASSMENT AND BULLYING OF ALL INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS.
  • Participants engaging in this behavior are subject to appropriate sanctions.
  • If you are subjected to harassment, bullying or retaliation, or if you become aware of anyone being harassed or bullied, contact a seneschal, President of the SCA, or your Kingdom’s Board Ombudsman.

Calontiri on the Camino de Santiago

Those Calontiri not on Facebook may not be aware, but our very own Malachi von Uri, Ariel of Glastonbury Tor, and Fernando Rodriguez de Falcon began walking the Way of St. James this June. With a few health and sanity breaks, Count Fernando and Duchess Ariel are still on the Camino more than 20 days later.

Master Malachi had to return early.

The deadline for paid pre-registration for Pennsic has been extended until 11:59 pm (Eastern Time) on Fri, Jun 23, 2017. The deadline for unpaid pre-registration is 11:59 pm July 7th.

The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is seeking candidates for the position of Society Webminister.

This position reports to the SCA Board of Directors.

The Society Webminister is a supervisory position, and is not involved in maintenance of the Corporate website (www.sca.org).

The Society Webminister is responsible for the following duties:

1. Ongoing development and revision of the Society Webminister’s policies and procedures, as detailed in the Society Webminister Handbook.
Said work will not only include making sure that solutions are provided for current issues, but will also include observing trends, being aware of potential issues and streamlining the Webministry as a whole to provide better service to the SCA and potential members thereof.

2. Warranting of kingdom-level Webministers, where necessary.

3. Supervision of all kingdom-level websites, including proper use of domain names, monitoring content, regular reporting from Kingdom Webministers, and enforcement of the Society Webministry policies and procedures.

4. Working with Kingdom Webministers to ensure they develop and
enforce clear guidelines for local SCA group websites based on the standards found in the Society Webminister’s Handbook.

5. Acting as a subject matter expert and resource regarding issues related to electronic publications and websites at the kingdom and local levels, including, but not limited to: copyright issues, privacy issues, and technology-related issues.

6. Quarterly reporting to the Board of Directors for the SCA, Inc.

Required for this position are: dependable email access; dependable phone access; moderate to expert proficiency in web-related technologies(e.g. HTML, Java, PSP, ASP, web hosting issues, etc.); moderate Microsoft Word proficiency; and the ability to clearly communicate via email, phone, and in written reports.

Prior experience as a Webminister in the SCA is required; prior experience as a kingdom webminister is highly desired.

Peerage Committee – Call for Commentary

At the April meeting the Board of Directors established a committee to research the process of creating new Peerages.

The committee will review the Board’s present procedure, determine whether any changes are needed, and suggest how any future proposals, e.g. Valiance, will be accommodated.

The committee invites the membership to share their ideas and comments. Those letters can be submitted by email to peerage@sca.org.

Two beautiful videos about the SCA, The Dream and Welcome Home, to show your friends what we are about.

Welcome Home is a shorter video and is very fighting-centric. It was filmed at the Kingdom of Caid‘s Queen’s Champion event int the summer of 2016.

The Dream is longer shows a broader cross section of what the SCA is about. It was filmed at Great Western War in October 2016.

The videos were the creations of Raiya Corsiglia, who is a member of the SCA.

The Dream won a Silver Telly award.

The Board of Directors is seeking nominations from the populace for individuals to serve as members of the following Board Committees:

Finance and Audit Committee

Mission:  to assist the Board’s oversight of the Company’s accounting and financial reporting processes, the audit and integrity of the Company’s financial statements and the qualifications and independence of the Company’s independent auditor

Communications Committee

Mission:  to develop and oversee advertising; public relations; publications, social media and other communications initiatives of the Society

Membership Committee

Mission:  grow and sustain membership in the Society; evaluate and oversee implementation of programs and initiatives for membership support

Duke Conn MacNeill’s Albums Available on Google Play

For those Calontiri who remember His Grace Duke Conn MacNeill, the bard king of Calontir, two albums of his songs are now available on Google Play.  The albums, Visitacions de la Muse Polyhymnia and Valor d’Amor, recently became available for purchase and download.

Visitacions contains many songs older Calontiri will recall fondly, and several that remain classics and are sung around the fire to this day. The album was originally a cassette tape, and the recording quality shows it. But for those who want to hear “Rite of Passage” or “Crown and Kingdom” sung by the laurel bard who wrote them, it won’t matter in the least.

Valor is much better technically, and continues to demonstrate His Grace’s talents as a songwriter and singer. “Captive Heart” is an especially pleasant surprise for those who did not follow Conn’s work after his departure.

King Ashir exercising the royal authority and power, with the assent and consent of Ashland the Queen, his wife, to the dukes, duchesses, earls, countesses, barons, etc., announces that he has granted in perpetuity to one such Countess Elspeth of Stonehaven her entrance into the Order of the Calon Lily, and all responsibilities, rights, and privileges of said Order. He also grants to the same Countess use of the badge of this order, to wit: Per pale purpure and Or, a fleur-de-lys within a bordure counterchanged.  Also granted to the same Countess a full toft for her use in embroidering fine cloth, beside the church in the shire of Lost Moor. He orders that 1/10th of 1/10th of the tax on wool gathered in the Shire of Lost Moor shall be granted to her for the upkeep of this toft. In addition Ashir grants the ploughgate of land from the desmesne neighbouring Stonehaven with three tofts and thirty acres of moor, fifteen acres on one side of the vill and fifteen on the other, and a croft of meadow surrounded by an old ditch of which the raising of sheep may occur.
