SCA Announcements – 2019 Peerage Committee Survey

Men harvesting wheat, Queen Mary’s Psalter, circa 1310. Public domain in the US

On behalf of the SCA Board of Directors, the Peerage Committee would like to solicit the opinions of all members of the Society in the following survey to gauge post-implementation views within the Society of the addition of the Order of Defense, as well as to understand the appetite for a future martial peerage or peerages for activities such as archery, thrown weapons, equestrian, and siege engines.

The last survey of this type, the SCA Census, was conducted over 10 years ago.  Much has changed within the Society in the years since that survey, and the Board cannot assume the data from the Census still reflects the opinions of members, particularly following the implementation of the Order of Defense.

The purpose of this survey is to understand if and how opinions have changed since the Order of Defense was introduced as a Peerage order, as well as to understand the lessons learned during that implementation.  The Board also recognizes that there has been much discussion by the membership since the implementation of the Order of Defense regarding extending recognition to other activities currently not covered by a martial skill-based peerage, including (but not limited to) archery, thrown weapons, equestrian activities, and siege engines.  This survey is a prelude to any future discussion by the Board regarding additional peerage Order(s).

By completing this survey, you will help the Board to collect fresh data regarding attitudes towards existing and potential Peerage orders, and to progress the discussion of these topics.  Thank you for your assistance in this matter. Deadline for completion of this survey is January 28th, 2019. The Survey is now live at :

https://surveys.eastkingdom.org/index.php/313648?lang=en

If you wish to re-take the survey to change your responses should your opinions change you may retake the survey but be aware that taking the survey again will negate your previous survey in its entirety. Please fill the survey out again fully.

The Calontiri Wiki has Moved!

The Calontiri Wiki was started 4 years ago in order to:

  • Help to get to know our fellow Calontiri better – interests, skills, personas, put names to faces
  • Make it easier to submit well-informed award recommendations
  • Help bring distant parts of our Kingdom together
  • Let our various guilds and households make their own easily updated place on the web
  • Give Calontiri merchants another venue to spread their craft
  • Be a place to find the stories and songs that explain what it is to be Calontiri
  • And whatever else we want to do with it!

Since then, the wiki has grown to over 1200 files, including over 700 articles about citizens of Calontir!

Unfortunately, the wiki farm that was hosting the Calontiri Wiki is closing down.  Fortunately, Master Mathurin was kind enough to make room for it where he hosts the Falcon Banner.

So after a massive crash course in web development, hours of help from an old college buddy, and lots of help from fellow Calontiri wiki fans, the Calontiri Wiki has been migrated to it’s new home:

http://calontiri.info (note the “i” at the end of calontiri)

There’s still lots of polishing up to do, and not all the images migrated over so that’s where you can help.

If you had an article on calontiri.wikispaces.com, search for your article on calontiri.info and make sure it looks okay.  Search for your friends, too.  The old wiki will be up until the end of September for reference.

There is an article with Basic Instructions in the left toolbar to help.

If you want an account, let me know.  If you don’t have an article yet, and want one, let me know.

In Memoriam: The Passing of Logan the Boyer

On March 26th Logan the Bowyer passed away.

Logan was a brother Boga Fyrd, and a stalwart supporter of the Barony of Coeur d’Ennui.

Logan also acted as a court herald when called upon. In fact, he was always ready to perform any service for his Barony and Kingdom.

Most people remember his kindness, his willingness to help and his joy. He was always willing to help new archers, and to expand our understanding of the art. But it did not end with archery; Logan would help anyone with anything. Simply being there, with a smile and a willing set of hands, was his great strength.

He also loved the making of things, receiving a Leather Mallet for his cooking and woodworking. He loved learning, and would ask very tough, detailed questions in his quest to grasp a concept.

Logan embodied the yeoman archer of “Strike the Drum” and well deserves to have the song sung in his memory:
