Blue Hawk Herald OP Clerk Position Announcement

Unto the Populace of Calontir, the Honorable Lady Ailith Bystoune, Blue Hawk Herald sends greetings!

As Blue Hawk Herald, I maintain the Kingdom’s Order of Precedence (OP). The Calontir OP is kept in an online database accessible at op.calontir.org. After serving the Kingdom for many years, I am searching for a deputy who is interested in taking over the position in the coming months.

Being the Clerk of the Order of Precedence is a wonderful way to serve the Kingdom! It entails receiving COURT REPORTS and entering the award data into the database as well as managing that data and coordinating continuing improvements to the website. Despite how it sounds, this job does not require technical computer skills beyond that which is standard in modern life (use of email, Facebook, etc). This position reports to the Gold Falcon Principal Herald and the Kingdom Web Minister, and works closely with the Deputy Web Minister, who is working on technical upgrades to the website.

If you are interested, please send a letter of intent to Blue Hawk Herald Letter of Intent.

Yours in Service,
HL Ailith Bystoune

Correction: Information Summary for Gryphon’s Fest 2014: The Noble Beasts of Calontir

The feast info in the info summary posted today was incorrect. The correct feast information was posted a few days ago (http://falconbanner.com/2014/09/10/gryphons-fest-feast-information/)

To recap the correct information:

Sur La Table:  Bread, Butter, “Puddleford Persimmon Chutney,” Assorted small pasties (beef, mushroom, pork)

1st course:  “Small game birds” with 2 sauces (one fruit, one rosewater), a “Tart of Greens”
2nd course:  Venison, Frumenty (a grain dish, similar to oatmeal, but with savory spices), Peas
3rd course:  Roast pork, Compote of apples and walnuts, Stuffed tubes (fried cheese)
Dessert: “Slices” (a pastry of figs, almonds, and raisins), Candied Orange Peel, and “Tart de Pommes” (apple pie)As previously mentioned, there will be an “off board” option, for anyone interested. The off-board will be all the dishes that are NOT specifically “meat.”  (The idea, here, is to bring your own meat-of-choice.  We will provide a place for the cooking of said meat.  We will then provide all the side dishes, drinks, and desserts…all this, for the lowlow price of $5.  Limit of 20 off-board tickets.)

Vegan alternatives can, and will *cheerfully* be, made available, on request (in advance, please!  I’m not asking for a paid pre-registration, just let me know, so that I can plan for the vegan substitutes I will need to buy).

I would be very grateful if anyone who is interested in either the “off board” option, or the vegan option, would please let me know, some time before Thursday, 9/25 (since that’s when I’ll be doing the bulk of my shopping).

Thanks, much.

GRYPHON’S FEST PET POLICY:

As always, pets are welcomed on site as long as they are leashed and well-behaved. We ask owners take steps to clean up after their pets as well.
This policy extends to crossbows, ground fires, and spouses.
The leash is metaphorical in the latter cases.
Thank you,
Ozzur

SITE RULES FOR GRYPHON’S FEST 2014:

1.) All fires MUST have an associated fire extinguisher. This is not to put out your own fire, but to chase to the one that’s getting away. Hopefully, none will escape.
2.) No smoking in any public building, tent, or area that has not been designated with a ‘Smoking’ sign. There will be cans to deposit used butts. Your own private tent and camp area is exempt from this rule.
3.) No swimming in the ponds. Snakes are people too!
4.) No playing in the parking area. No if’s, and’s, or but’s. Violation of this rule may result in ejection from the event.
5.) No unaccompanied minors (under 18) in the parking area after dark. Minors may be unaccompanied in the parking area during the daylight if and ONLY if they are being actively monitored by a parent or assigned and notified adult. There will be a test later, I guarantee it.
6.) Please stay out of all unauthorized areas. These will be marked.
7.) As always, federal, state, and Society rules at events do still apply.

Thank you for your attention,

Gryphon’s Fest 2014 “BEASTS” Rattan Fighting Scenarios

Gleaned from Facebook:

Overall Schedule:

  • 9 am Authorizations and Inspections
  • 10 am : Battle scenarios
  • 12:30 pm Break for lunch (field open for pick ups)
  • 1:00 pm Man at Arms Tourney
  • After the tourney, the field will be open for pick ups

Archery:

ONLY Calontir style golf-tube and tennis ball arrows allowed. Thrust and throw javelins allowed. NO baldar blunt or Asgard tipped arrows/bolts will be allowed.

Battle Scenarios:

Team A: Humans. No weapons restrictions (combat archery allowed as below), no unusual fighting conventions

Team B: Beasts. No weapons restrictions. All “beasts” will be separated into teams of 2-4 people. Beasts must remain within arm’s length of all “limbs” (team members). If a “limb” is killed, the fighter must drop to their knees, and the beast can only move as fast the “dead” limb can move. A beast is killed only when all “limbs” are dead. Approximately 50% of the beasts will be considered “flying” for the swamp battle below. In order to resurrect, all parts of the beast must go to resurrection point together, and each “dead” limb takes 1 resurrection.

Village battle: (no archery)

Humans begin in the buildings, beasts outside.
Humans must protect the “grain” (pillows) from the beasts. Grain belongs to the humans if it is in a building AND at least one human is inside.
Beasts are considered in control of the grain if it is removed from the building AND a beast is within weapons length of the grain.
20 minutes res battle with a pause at 10 minutes to count “control”. The number of bags of grain in control of each team is added to the # of resurrections available for the castle battle.

Bridge battle: (no archery)

Last man standing. Winning team gets additional resurrections for castle battle.
Swamp battle: ARCHERY for the HUMANS only
All grain is in the center island. The island has 4 access routes. Fighters must cross on their knees to the island, and may stand on the island. “Flying” beasts may walk to the island. To “ground” a flying beast, they must be struck by an arrow or javelin (thrust and throw spear).
Grain must be removed from the center of the island to your base (near res point).
20 minute resurrection (or until all grain is captured, whichever comes first). The number of bags of grain in control of each team is added to the # of resurrections available for the castle battle.

Open field battle: (no archery)

No archery. Teams are attempting to capture “grain” and return it to their base.
20 minute resurrection. May be reset before 20 minutes if all grain is captured.
The number of bags of grain in control of each team is added to the # of resurrections available for the castle battle.

Castle Battle: ARCHERY for the BEASTS only

Humans are defending. Beasts are attacking.
Beasts have archery. Humans may throw shots down from above/over the walls of the fort.
To open a sally port the beasts must strike the door 6 solid blows.
Last man standing, using the resurrections earned from earlier scenarios.

Man At Arms Tourney:

3 man teams (at least one Fyrdman per team)
Two fights each at the village, bridge and castle.
Each team will attack once and defend once at each location (6 fights). Teams will be randomly assigned on the day of the tourney. We will try to put you with people you have never fought with before. Opponents will change for each location. Any weapon (no archery).

July 2014 LoAR Results

From Gunnar Thorisson, Vert Hawk Herald, via the Calonlist:

Calontir Acceptances

Calontir, Kingdom of.
Transfer of heraldic title White Tyger Herald to Ines Alfón.

Geva de Kent. Device. Lozengy purpure and Or, on a chief invected Or three bunches of grapes purpure.

Martush Aleksandrov. Name and device. Gules, a chevron rompu between five Russian Orthodox crosses two, one, and two Or.

Rodrigo Hernández of Vatavia. Device. Argent, on a chevron purpure three dragonflies palewise Or.

Rohese de Dinan. Badge for alternate name Casilda Manrique de Lara. (Fieldless) On an escallop Or, a rose proper.
Nice badge!

Sciath of Calanais Nuadh. Device. Quarterly gules and Or, two frets couped Or.
This device does not create the appearance of marshalling. The appearance of marshalling can be created by having charges that terminate at the edge of a section or having different types of charges in different sections of the field. Here, neither the Or quarters nor the sections with couped frets, since they don’t extend to the end of the section, appear to be an independent pieces of armory. Thus, this design can be registered.

Wulf Werner. Name.We note that the originally submitted name, Wulf filius Werner, would also be registerable. Ælfwynn Leoflæde dohtor documented patronymic bynames that combine the Latin filius with the unmodified form of the father’s name to 13th century Germany. An example is Wernlinus filius Ermenrich, dated 1267 (Socin, p. 579). As the submitter prefers the fully vernacular form of the name, we are registering the form that appeared on the Letter of Intent.

Calontir Pends

Gawain of Miskbridge. Acceptance of transfer of heraldic title Green Anchor Herald from Society for Creative Anachronism.
This name is pended to allow Laurel to include the transfer of the heraldic title in a Letter of Intent.
This was item 2 on the Calontir letter of April 4, 2014.
